Due to the deprived infrastructure, heavy rainfall and low sea level in this part of Jakarta floods and landslides occur every year leaving hundreds sometimes thousands homeless and in need of rebuilding their slum again. In spite of their living conditions close to everybody we met were generous to invite us in for a meal or a drink. Everywhere around there were genuine smiles, joy and laughter.
By highlighting the impact of flooding on the lives of those living in the slum, this series aims to raise awareness about the urgent need for sustainable solutions to address the effects of climate change in vulnerable communities.
